FAQs

HOW DO I BECOME A PATIENT?

You may call 704-799-5433 or email thewellforhealth@gmail.com with your request. We will return your call or email to confirm your appointment within 24 hours (or by Monday, if requests are made on a Friday afternoon). If you have questions prior to scheduling the appointment, feel free to reach out!

WHAT TYPES OF PATIENTS ARE SERVED AND WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT THE WELL FOR HEALTH?

Men and women (ages 18 and older) make up the majority of our patients; however, at the discretion of our providers, we will gladly see adolescents if their concerns are within the scope of our expertise. Services include the evaluation and treatment of hormonal imbalances including PMS, menopause, andropause, low libido, insomnia, sexual counseling for low libido, vaginismus, painful intercourse, and relationship issues stemming from these problems. High cholesterol, diabetes and insulin resistance, obesity, gut issues such as diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, bloating, pain; mild to moderate anxiety and depression, evaluation and treatment for biotoxin issues, such as exposure to mold, environmental toxins, heavy metals and preventing, improving or reversing dementia / Alzheimer’s disease.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST VISIT?

Prior to the first visit, you will need to have had a 15 – 30-minute phone consultation at no charge with our provider to be sure The Well for Health is a good fit for you. In anticipation of your appointment, you will be asked to complete an online comprehensive history for review by the practitioner. During your first official visit at The Well for Health, you will spend time (45 minutes to one hour) with our practitioner. At this time, you will tell your healthcare story – a timeline of various significant events, any symptoms, and concerns, healthcare goals, previous treatment, and testing, etc. A physical exam will be done with special emphasis on areas of concern. Then, together, we will determine testing necessary to optimize care and facilitate a treatment plan. This plan will be implemented during your second office visit or telephone call. Frequency of following visits will be individually determined by the complexity of care.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL?

No, you can make an appointment directly by call 704-799-5433. However, we gladly accept referrals or consultations from your provider.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE PLANS?

We are not in-network with commercial insurance plans. As a courtesy, we will provide a “super bill” for you to file with your insurance company. Fees associated with each visit are due at the time of the session. We are approved as an in-network medicare provider to order labs and diagnostic tests such as MRI, CT, mammograms, etc. This is necessary to have tests covered by medicare. We are however, not medicare providers for office visits.

DO YOU OFFER TREATMENT FOR LOW OR OUT OF BALANCE HORMONES, THYROID AND ADRENAL ISSUES?

Yes, after an extensive evaluation of possible hormonal imbalances related to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menopause, andropause, decreased libido, thyroid and adrenal dysfunction and stress symptoms, we will determine the best course of treatment which frequently incorporates bioidentical hormones.

WHAT OTHER SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

The Bredesen protocol is a comprehensive program for preventing and / or reversing cognitive decline (dementia and Alzheimer’s). We can recognize and treat biotoxin illnesses such as mold, environmental toxins, or heavy metals. Neurotransmitter testing has been a wonderful adjuvant to assess low levels of serotonin, gaba, dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, glutanate, so often low or out of balance with insomnia, anxiety, and “busy brain” treatment is with targeted nutritional therapy to naturally balance the neurotransmitters, however we use medication if needed.

WHAT TYPES OF SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION DO YOU TREAT?

Decreased libido, vaginismus, painful intercourse as well as sexual concerns related to cancer treatment, vulvar disease, menopause, or relationship issues. We do not treat specific causes of pain such as endometriosis, vulvar disease, pelvic floor dysfunction; however, we offer ways to manage the sexual problems resulting from these concerns once they have been diagnosed.  We will provide referrals to the appropriate professional to handle these problems.

HOW IS SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION TREATED?

Laboratory analysis, education, counseling, supplements, medication, and therapeutic aids. Couples counseling is encouraged, but not required.

IS LABORATORY TESTING NEEDED FOR A SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION EVALUATION?

That depends on root cause of the problem. If there are clear relationship issues contributing to the dysfunction, results from laboratory studies are not usually beneficial; however, frequently low or imbalanced hormones are the main contributory cause of the problem. We utilize blood, saliva and urine testing through various lab services.

WHAT OTHER LAB TESTING IS DONE?

We will order labs through LabCorp, Quest, Solstas, HDL, Genova, Diagnostics, SpectraCall, ALCAT, Cyrex, Doctor’s Data, Commonwealth Laboratories, Precision Analytical, and Igenex. You will then go to a patient care center to have labs drawn, as we do not have in-house lab services at The Well for Health. To minimize the surprise of unexpected non-reimbursable fees associated with labs, we highly encourage you to call your insurance company to determine which lab company is in-network for your insurance plan and what your financial responsibility would be for labs ordered by an out-of-network provider.

WHAT IS LIFESTYLE COACHING?

To partner with the patient to promote a healthier lifestyle. The goal is to achieve optimal weight, reverse or improve chronic disease, increase energy, and better fitness for the maximum enjoyment of life’s experiences. We have a holistic nutritionist, and health coach to work with you as you meet your goals.

ARE PRODUCTS, ITEMS, AND SUPPLEMENTS AVAILABLE?

Yes, as a convenience to our patients, we offer select supplements for purchase either in the office or via a secure provider site. We strongly urge patients to consider the highest-quality supplements due to concerns about the accuracy of dosing and overall safety of product. We are especially concerned about contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, etc. in many supplements.

HOW IS GENETIC TESTING DONE?

Many traditional labs such as LabCorp, Quest, and HDL perform limited genetic testing. A comprehensive genetic test can be done through 23andme.com and similar companies. Your provider can discuss pros and cons of getting genetic testing and implications of having this information.

DO YOU HAVE A SUPPORT SYSTEM IN PLACE TO SUPPORT PATIENTS AS THEY TACKLE THOSE SOMETIMES DIFFICULT LIFESTYLE CHANGES?

Yes. Julie Kenny, FMHC-certified is a graduate of the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy and is also training with Dr. Bredesen to work with patients as they go through the multi-faceted program to prevent or reverse cognitive decline. Julie’s support and education is critical to the success of turning around long-term negative habits.
