Conventional and Complementary Medicine and COVID-19: What You Should Know

At The Well for Health in Davidson, North Carolina, it has always been our passion to help you optimize your health. While we’ve all been taking in the vast amount of fast-changing information about the COVID-19 outbreak, it has been our goal to continue to serve you in a way that keeps you healthy and safe.

In this blog, our team of nurse practitioners, holistic nutritionists, doctors, and health coaches got together to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about COVID-19 as it relates to conventional and complementary medicine.

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a specific type of coronavirus. Though it is part of a family of well-known viruses that can cause the common cold and influenza, this particular virus is novel, or new, and it is not yet thoroughly understood. First discovered in 2019, this new strain of SARS-CoV-2 can cause sore throat, fever, shortness of breath, and can advance to severe acute respiratory distress and death.

Can I prevent COVID-19?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to stay home as much as possible, wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds each time, stay six feet away from other people, don’t touch your face, cover your cough, and call your doctor before you head in if you are feeling sick.

At The Well for Health, we encourage all of our patients to strengthen their immune systems to help keep the virus at bay or, if you should contract it, to decrease its severity.

How can I fortify my immune system?

Our team uses a functional medicine model to care for you with a whole-person approach. We consider your lifestyle, diet, environment, and medical and family history to customize solutions for you. One of the best ways we combine conventional and complementary medicine is to help you bolster your immune system so it can help you defend against COVID-19 and other viruses. These are some of our favorite immune boosting practices:
