Learn about the Latest in Dementia Prevention: The Bredesen Protocol

Dementia Prevention Bredesen protocol ReCODE

According to the National Institute on Aging, the number of people with Alzheimer’s doubles every five years. Dr. Dale Bredesen has developed a treatment plan for Alzheimer's and dementia prevention. And he's shared his research with the doctors here at The Well for Health.

The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease & Parkinsonism published early parts of the treatment. They used 100 patients in different clinics across America. And according to the case studies, all 100 patients experienced positive results. This dementia prevention is known as, The Bredesen Protocol.

Causes of dementia

Dementia isn’t a single disease. The term, “dementia” describes a wide range of symptoms. For example, loss of memory, difficulty thinking, and communication. There are several different types of dementia, too. Alzheimer's, Huntington's disease, and Parkinson’s, to name a few.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a combination of factors can cause dementia. Genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors can affect the brain over time. When that happens, the proteins in the brain stop functioning. And neurons stop communicating with each other. This often starts in the part of the brain responsible for memory.

What is the Bredesen protocol?

The Bredesen Protocol is an individualized treatment program. It's tailored to each patient’s specific symptoms and needs. Dr. Bredesen designed the treatment protocol to be flexible and customizable. The goal is for each patient to reverse their cognitive decline and regain brain function. Whether the patient suffers from cognitive impairment or early Alzheimer’s.

This protocol can help you or your loved one prevent dementia from taking over.

The personalized plan focuses on lifestyle, medication, and nutritional changes. The plan takes into account your specific symptoms and environmental causes. This approach, known as ReCODE is a way to “fight brain fog.”

How does the Bredesen protocol work?

Think of this ReCODE like fixing a roof with many holes. Traditional treatment for dementia only helps to block a few factors. Or treat a few symptoms, allowing other factors to still cause damage (like rain through holes in a roof). The Bredesen Protocol treats the entire patient. It “plugs” all the holes instead of only a few. Stopping damage and allowing the brain to restore itself.
